Friday Flower Livingstone Daisy

Posted by Ruth on 14 June 2013 | 0 Comments

As a young girl I have always admired the Livingstone Daisy. I am not sure if it is the bright colors I love or the icy look it portrays, I just find it delightful. Livingstone Daisies only open in the sunlight so it was a good thing I designed this block on a sunny day.

May Flowers

The saying goes "April's showers bring May flowers", well for the northern hemisphere that is true. Maybe not so much in the southern hemisphere where autumn is changing into winter. With the early snowfalls, the only way to brighten one's home is to make some applique flowers instead.

Friday Flower Calla Lily

Calla Lilies are very unique in their shape and are quite different to many flowers I have seen. This is one of the reasons I am very fond of them. I made a full quilt of Calla Lilies a few years ago called "Light Upon the Earth" and wrote a blog post about their creation too.

Friday Flower Clematis

Posted by Ruth on 3 May 2013 | 0 Comments

Tags: ,

For the first flower of May I have a Clematis. The clematis is a climbing plant and their display is elegant. Most varieties produce a single flower however some have a double flower. The single flower can range from as small as 1" and up to 10". I haven't seen one that big but I'm sure it would be real pretty. I have seen quite a few different varieties though. The flowers are usually pastel shades of pink and purple or white but sometimes they can be brighter colors too.

Friday again and another flower is produced. This week I have made an iris. An iris is a wonderful garden plant that comes most commonly in many different shades of purples but other colors as well. The name Iris means rainbow so it speaks for itself. I have captured a few different iris flowers to show.

Friday Flower Fuchsia

Fuchsias are my very favorite flowers. They grow on shrubs or small trees and there is over 100 recognized species around the world. An unusual genus in New Zealand (named Kotukutuku - don't ask me how to say that!) grows on a tree 12-15 meters high (39-49 feet).
