Student's Tote that Mat

Another class I am currently running at Quilt University is "Tote That Mat". It is a class based on my all time favorite pattern "Carry All Board Bag". The names probably give a good indication of what this pattern/class is all about. Yes you guessed it. It is a tote to carry your cutting board and quilting equipment. The good thing about it is that the standard 18" x 24" mat and 6" x 24" long ruler both fit this tote and it is still managable to carry. If you have an 8" x 24" long ruler, the ruler pocket can easily be adjusted to suit.

Grandmother's puzzle - free block

Today is another free block day and I want to carry on with the 5-patch theme. If you remember two weeks ago I presented the first 5-patch block called Four-X Star block and last week I introduced another called Flying Squares which showed how to construct a block using partial seams. This week's block is called Grandmother's puzzle and is definitely for the advanced quilter.

A few days ago I mentioned about the changes I was making to my machine quilting class at the Academy of Quilting. Today I made some further videos to upload so now it is all ready to begin next week. I had so much fun making videos that I decided to use the beginning of one to make a little promotional video for youtube. I figured it would be fun to share it here with you.

Friday Flower Petunia

Posted by Ruth on 15 March 2013 | 2 Comments

My mother sent me a photo of a petunia (shown below) so of course I needed to make a petunia block. After doing a little research online I found plenty of petunia photos, mostly in pinks and purples but also blue and red among other colors. The red with white look really cool. Apparently most are hybrids developed for specific reasons.

My machine quilting photo today is palm trees. How could you use this as a quilting design? Maybe a border design? Perhaps a fill-in design?

Today I have been looking at my quilt pattern Autumn Daisy. I first made this in 2003 and it was later published by Arbee Designs in 2005. It has been a very popular pattern to sew and makes a delightful table setting.
