Photo Frame
Today I did some experimenting with photos. Someone some time ago had told me how you could melt plastic over photos to help prevent them from fading when adding them to some sort of quilt art, so I decided to give it a try. I printed out a few photos of my grandchildren to get started.
Friday Flower Buttercup
The real name for a buttercup is Ranunculus. The buttercup is known for its yellow color and it was believed once that its color came from butter - not true of course. I remember as a young girl rubbing buttercups on the palms of others and telling them if it left a yellow mark, it meant that person liked butter. I don't know where that notion came from, but after doing some research I had to giggle to myself when I read that this game wasn't just in my neighborhood, it appears it was quite commonly used all around the world in a similar way.
Stitch Along December Challenge Week 1
Elvira Richardson has entered in some of the stitch along challenges. She sent a photo of her first challenge piece too so I wanted to share that with you. Here's a link back to our starting challenge just in case you cannot remember what it was about. I can't believe 6 months have gone by since then!
Machine Quilting 48
This week's photo is a little difficult to see, so it would be easier to go in search of one and study it. I'm talking about a cobweb. We all have an idea of what one looks like, but have you really studied one up close? They are amazing. You can see how interwoven they can be.
Dyeing to Design
Elizabeth Barton has some really wonderful online classes that are packed full of information. One such class is Dyeing to Design which begins soon and continues over 5 lessons.
My Mystery
My mystery class has been very successful this year, I'm thinking that next year I will need to write a new one for you all to try. For those of you who don't know what it is all about, I thought I would share some of what you'll see in class. Of course, when you begin, you have no idea what you're going to be making.
My November Stitch Along week 4
How did you get along with your Stitch Along? Remember to update the gallery. We had a lot to do to get this finished today so I expect to see more entries during the week. I still need to do the hand stitching on the binding, but all my embellishments are attached. I almost forgot the 'round' 'green' beads which needed to be included.
Bargello Patterns
I was looking through the different bargello quilts I have made over the years. Here are the bargellos that I have published, many of these are also online classes as well. I do have some that I have not finished that you won't see here. For some reason I just wasn't completely happy with them.
Friday Flower Hibiscus
This week's flower is Hibiscus. Hibiscus are known for their large trumpet-shaped blooms and attractive stamen which seems overly large for the flower. I did a little research to find out some facts about Hibiscus. Hibiscus has a less commonly known name of Rose Mallow. The flowers have five or more petals and they come in many colors of pink, red, orange, yellow and purple. Dried Hibiscus is edible and a delicacy of Mexico and tea is also made from this plant. Hibiscus is the national flower of Malaysia and the State flower of Hawaii. There are actually two native Hibiscus plants of Hawaii but only one is named as the State flower.
Stitch Along November Challenge week 4 rules
Wow, week four already. Did you get your mini quilt top together last week? Remember to send a photo in for the gallery. This week's a big one but the end of the month is 9 days away so you might like to spread it out a little.
