My January Challenge week 3
This week we added F for free-motion to the list of letters for our challenge piece. It just seemed to fit seeing as our third week is usually quilting.
Challenge Rules January week 3
How did you get along with rules for week 1 and week 2? Do you have any idea what might be coming for week 3? I'm sure you do. F is for Free-motion quilting.
Celebrate with a Quilt
Anita Eaton has been creating some wonderful small quilts based on celebration. This can be a celebration on any thing from wedding, anniversary, graduation, sporting or birth. There are so many options and Anita shares a lot of creative ideas on making your quilt special to you. I asked Anita what got her started.
Helpful Tips for Navigating Classes at Academy of Quilting
Our setup at the Academy of Quilting is new to many of the students, especially if they have attended classes at Quilt University so I wanted to share some tips and help for students who may be having difficulty. First of all, there are a number of words/link-names that are different so lets look at their meanings first as well as some of the basic names to certain areas of a class.
Classes starting this week
Seminole Piecing

Tutor: Daphne Greig; 3 lessons; US$30.00
Seminole Piecing is a patchwork method used by the Seminole people of south Florida to enhance their garments. Daphne will show you how to create eight bands of patchwork using simple rotary cutting and basic piecing techniques. The magic comes when you cut the units apart and sew them back together. You will be inspired by her suggestions to use the bands to trim garments and home décor items. You will learn to make a tote bag, bolster pillow and wall quilt. Level: Advanced beginner and up. My January Challenge week 2
Sunday is getting to be my favorite day. I can take some time out and work on my challenge project. It's really a nice to do something a little different now and then. I started by cutting out several butterflies. If you remember in last week's post I only had a few strips of fabric so the big butterflies could not be cut out.
Challenge Rules January week 2
Did you get started on this month's challenge? It's not too late to start. If you missed the first week's rules you can find them here: January week 1 rules. Now it is time to start thinking of what we will do this weekend. I cut out my broderie perse motif which I hadn't done last week, I hope you've cut yours out.
Reversible Quilts
Reversible quilts, have you ever made one? I have always thought that would be great especially on a table runner and placemats, or even a bed quilt. You could flip it over and instantly have a different color scheme. Leslie has a class on how to make these so I took a moment to ask her how it was done and how she got started.

My January Challenge week 1
I did make it a little hard on myself this month, oh well, it is a challenge after all. You see, I'm not one for prints so finding something in my stash for broderie perse was quite a challenge for me. I spent much time searching for something suitable. Perhaps I'd better mention about now that if you missed this month's rules you can find them here >>
