August Stitch Along Challenge Week 5 part 2
As promised, I'm back with the second part of my challenge story... adding the final touches to my tote. I finished off my tote so it is now all complete. Let's see what I did. If you missed the binding (part 1) you'll find it here: August Stitch Along Finishing up part 1
August Stitch Along Challenge Finishing Up 1
This week I am not going to offer challenge rules as such, instead I just want you to finish off your tote using all the elements you made. I'm going to do a two part blog post instead. In the first part I'm going to show you how I do a totally machine stitched binding. I use this for totes, place mats and table runners, or anything that I need a stronger binding for.
Markers, Marbling and Quilting
Something a little different in the way of quilt making is always fun. Pat Daniels has an interesting technique where she uses markers, felt tipped markers or fabric markers both work, to marble fabric. She teaches this in her class "Marker Mania". Of course, you can also make the projects (she includes two) using purchased fabric without adding the marbling effect and still learn all about bias tape applique.
Fascinated about Filament Fantasy
I don't know about you, but I'm fascinated about Linda Schmidt's class Filament Fantasy and her use of threads and fibers. I am definitely going to be taking a closer look. In the meantime, I asked Linda to express some words about what the class is all about.
My August Stitch Along Week 4
It is time for me to put my blocks together to make my birthday tote. I will start by stitching the two blocks together (right sides are facing) down both sides and across the bottom. I also trimmed away the batting a little to make it less bulky.
Amazing Scenic Quilt
Imagine my excitement, not to mention Linda's when I heard the news "I just got an e-mail that I won an Honorable Mention for the World at the World Quilt Show in New England! (That's like 4th place in the World - not the US entries, but the World!)" posted by Linda Schmidt on our Academy of Quilting facebook page. The news was great, but wait till you see the quilt!
Challenge Rules for Stitch Along Week 4
Did you work on your design area last week? Be sure to check back for the measurements in the Week 3 rules. If you missed the earlier rules for this Stitch Along Challenge, you can find them here: Week 1 and Week 2.
My August Stitch Along Week 3
Okay, this weekend didn't turn out how it was planned! It all started when I went to cut my 12" squares for my stitch along project as mentioned in week 3 rules. The fabric I had, wasn't big enough to cut two 12" squares so it was back to the drawing board I had to go. No problem, I soon found another fabric that I felt would work just as well. This fabric was black with brightly colored dots. I'm thinking I must have a thing about dots this month!
Price Drop
We have some very exciting news! While most retailers are having to put their prices up, ours are coming down.
Fun Free Quilting Project
I hope you will join me in the fun free quilting class. So much to learn! Use my templates or your own to make a beautiful book cover or tablet cover. I've had so much fun over the last few weeks making many of these.
