Here is an excerpt from Elizabeth Barton's class "Dyeing to Design", just one small part from one lesson in this fabulous 5-lesson online workshop which is starting soon. You won't want to miss it as it has a wealth of information....
Bargello Patterns - 2 seasons
As I've been designing a brand new bargello, I've also been refreshing my Bargello Seasons patterns and transferring them to downloadable patterns. The two I have done most recently is Bargello in Summer and Bargello in Winter - opposite seasons for opposite sides of the equator. I didn't do that on purpose, it was just the way it happened.
Stitch Along August Week 1 rules
August will see a challenge of a different kind. I hope you will enjoy it. It seems to be that coloring books have hit the world by storm as a method of therapy - relaxation, so this month let's do some coloring to start out in prep for our small art quilt to follow.
Do you know difference...?
Do you know the difference between a basic straight bargello design and a circular bargello design? There are two main differences between these designs. The obvious one is that the bargello strips form a circle in the circular bargello and this is because all the strips are cut as wedges. The second difference is that all bargello strips are cut the same width whereas a straight bargello has many different widths to form the design. All this is covered in my Circular Bargello Class which I teach at the Academy of Quilting.
Need new ideas for 2 1/2" strips?
If you need a new way to use those 2 1/2" strips you have been collecting, you want to give this pattern a try "Flower Boxes". There are multiple layout and border options to make any size quilt you need and this technique is definitely a new one. Include the flowers or not, the inspiration can lead you into a new world of creativity.
My Stitch Along July week 4
Time to finish up this challenge. I decided to add some more quilting to my piece as I wanted the triangles to pop a little so I added some small stippling in the background starting in the center. I used a pale blue variegated thread.
Stitch Along July Week 4 rules
Did you see the projects progressing in the Gallery? Check it out July Challenge Gallery. This is the last week of another month!
Be assured of enjoyment and future creativity
ALOHA is often the greeting you will hear from Nancy Chong especially when she is making Hawaiian Quilt. I am sure she will be saying this a lot in her upcoming class "Hawaiian Quilting 101".
My Stitch Along July week 3
Stitching week - woohoo. My favorite part. First things first and that is to cut a new background so I can make this design a little larger than minute. I always giggle at the word "minute". How can a word sound so different and have different meanings yet be spelled the same? The English language makes no sense at times! In this case, I'm meaning, extremely small, not a period of time.
Crazy And Sane Discounted
The object of this Crazy And Sane online workshop with Cindy Thury Smith is to introduce experienced crazy piecers to some simple sewing techniques to add visual punch to their crazy quilts. Sane quilters frequently use secondary patterns, settings and sashing to highlight their designs and crazy quilters can also use these.
