Stitch Along September Week 4 rules
Spring is well underway in the southern hemisphere and Fall is finding its way into the north. Maybe a Fall challenge will be next, but first we need to finish off September's challenge. I'm having fun with it except not too many others have joined in this month. I hope that will change for October. Remember to look for week one rules next week!
Landscapes Quilts Inspired by Photos
Susan Brittingham began Mabry Mill quilt in 2011, as she was preparing for a Photos to Quilts class at the Jacksonville Center in Floyd, VA and it was completed in 2012 in time for the "New Works" exhibit at her local Arts Center. Mabry Mill is a local landmark on the Blue Ridge Parkway where Susan took the inspiring photo to help her develop the quilt.
My Stitch Along September Week 3
Last week I finished up by trying to decide on which design to use. If you miss last week's post, check back here: September Stitch Along week 2. Before deciding, I thought it might be best to try out a few quilting designs first. That was easy using Inkscape to draw my quilting design and then lay it over the photos. It's a good way to see what might work and what won't. Here are some options I came up with....
My Stitch Along September Week 4
I'm back to finish off my Challenge quilt. Not too much to do this week, or is there? I did get a little carried away with the quilting. You see, I wondered how it would look if I quilted fine rows in the background, close together and of course, once started, I couldn't just stop. It had to be completed. I used a light blue rayon thread and started in the center.

Did you press your pieces onto the background fabric? If not, go ahead now and do so, then follow along with this week's rules.
Changing Colors for Changing Seasons
So by now I'm sure my readers know that I love to quilt. Not only is it relaxing, but also rewarding when the quilt is finished and I can start gathering fabrics for the next. Often I have two or three going at the same time, usually at different stages. Another fun thing I like to do is get one of my existing quilts and see how it looks in different colors. I did this recently for my quilt Purple Dawn.
Getting Ready for Christmas anyone?
So this weekend I was thinking about making a start on Christmas projects - you know how fast Christmas approaches at this time of year, it always seems to sneak up on me, but this year I was reminded due to my "Decorate Your Christmas Tree" online workshop starting soon which is a class for a variety of different tree skirts. Anyway, I was thinking about this and thought it might be fun to include my gingerbread house block that I designed a couple of years ago.
My Stitch Along September Week 2
Doing the search and finding so many beautiful Crocus flowers was a lot of fun... it is amazing how the minutes tick on by, a bit like when you start looking at things on pinterest, which is another way to search for things, however there is an advantage with doing a google search and that is, it is much easier to find a public domain image to use. It's a must to check where the picture is from first, you do NOT want to use any that is copyrighted.
