Machine Quilting 41
I finally found a way to download photos from my old phone. Always wondered how I could do that! In the process I found a photo to use for today's quilting inspiration. I'm sure you will recognize this icon.
I'm using just the wheel for inspiration.
I don't particularly care for drawing designs onto fabric so avoid it when I can. This week I used a compass to draw a half circle onto an Avery label. Actually I drew two. The Avery label will help me stitch accurately and keep the half circle even.
I folded the sheet in half and then I cut out around the half circles, making two templates. Avery labels are great for making templates to stitch around because they stick in place and can be used over several times.
Normally I would probably quilt this design along a seam line or border edge, but I haven't for this practice.
After stitching around both templates, I began adding the straight lines, still using my free-motion foot. First I stitch right up the center and then along the quarter line marks, which I just eye-balled.
I found it easiest to sew directly toward me so twisted the sample for each new line. I added further lines in between the existing lines.
And then divided them again.
By now the stitching was quite dense in the midpoint so I felt that was enough. I did however add one more half circle about 1/4" above the middle half circle.
