Day 9 of our machine quilting by inspiration. Last week I mentioned making larger designs for a border or over all design - an iris was the subject. This week I am continuing on with that same thought using a rose leaf instead.

Rose leaves

This is a real simple design and great for borders, especially on floral quilts.

You can see it could be stitched in rows or at random all over a quilt. I start by doing the outer line first and the vein in the center last, but there is no reason why you cannot do it the other way around.

If you feel a little uncomfortable just quilting without drawing, you can cut several shapes out of freezer paper and stitch around them. It works well and you get to position the leafs which ever way you please.

use freezer paper if necessary

I'm definitely going to find a place to quilt this on one of my quilts soon.
