Sky Rockets in Flight

Posted by on 10 March 2016 | 2 Comments

It is so exciting to present Linda Schmidt's latest quilt "Sky Rockets in Flight". She created this quilt because like everyone else, she loves fireworks! In this quilt Linda has used all those wonderful embellishing methods we see in quilting today, from thread work to foil, Angelina fiber and fancy threads, and much much more.

Skyrockets in Flight

Linda developed this quilt trying various methods so she could write a new online workshop. Some things worked and other things didn't, which is perfect for sharing with her students. With Linda's guidance, students can create their own wonderful night sky trying all of the techniques she includes ....or just a few.

This has to be a fun class to try and even if you don't make a full sized quilt, you can make minis from the practice samples and give them to your friends.

Study her quilt and see all the wonderful variations of fireworks.... And if you look hard enough, you'll see the San Francisco skyline sparkling in the background!

City with lights

Linda Schmidt FireworksAbout Fireworks in Flight: Let’s make a recreation of one of those nights with a dark black sky, your favorite city in the distance, with all the metallic threads and crystals and embellishments you never get to use on your day-to-day quilt projects. You will get to play with machine embroidery, fancy threads, foil glue and foil glitter, Angelina fiber, metallic thread snippets, Mistyfuse and more. First, you’ll make some samples, then create your own Fireworks Finale Masterpiece in your own colors and design, then quilt, embellish with crystals and beads, add piping and bind that into your own miniature fireworks explosion. Come on, let’s make Skyrockets in Flight! Read more about this online workshop...

  • That's wonderful Peggy, thanks for sharing with us. Yes, Helen had a wonderful quilt and class, unfortunately, she retired from teaching, but great news is that Linda is able to offer a new class with lots of alternative ways to make the fireworks.

  • I made a very similar fireworks wall hanging several years ago at Quilt University with Helen from Australia. Still get compliments on it. Great fun to make
