Sunflower Bouquet an applique quilt pattern made using Hoffman Fabrics

Sunflower Bouquet

Thanks to Hoffman Fabrics and Sandy's undivided attention at this busy time for her, I was able to complete another quilt for Hoffman Fabrics booth at the Spring Quilt Market in Salt Lake City this weekend. If any of you happen to be there, I hope you will stop by their booth and see my quilt in person.

I had been thinking earlier this year that it was about time I made a new sunflower quilt so this is the reason "Sunflower Bouquet" was born. My original sunflower quilt "Simply Sunflowerswas designed in 2004. It's been a very popular pattern and in more recent years was presented in the Keepsake Quilting catalog, so well and truly time for a new sunflower quilt.

Simply Sunflowers

When I first moved to Christchurch (New Zealand) in 2003, I had a beautiful garden display of sunflowers so had taken many photos. I used some of these photos (which I also used for Simply Sunflowers) to create this new quilt. However, this time, I used some of Hoffman Fabrics collection of 1895 and 885 fabrics. They made perfect sunflowers and leaves, and I also used them for the vase. The background and border fabrics are made up of their new fabrics presented at Spring Quilt Market. The combination worked well!

My vase originated from my online workshop "Still Life" but I simplified it for this pattern and altered the lighting.

Usually, I stipple down my background with tiny stipple not much bigger than my little fingernail in diameter, but for this quilt, I created a special quilting design (details and template included in the pattern) and quilted it all on my home sewing machine. Quite a task I might add. I also added a wood grain design for the table top and the border fabric enhanced the quilting as I could easily follow its design to finish off.

So this is my new quilt named "Sunflower Bouquet" and it is available as a pattern. If you would like further details about that, you will find it on our website at
