The flower for August is Gladiolus - such a beautiful flower in so many colors. When I made my collection of flowers, I definitely included a gladys as we often call them, but this week I decided to make a second block using pink instead of my original red.

Personal Unique Gifts You Can Make Easily

Isn't if funny how when you are out shopping you find something you never went out to intentionally buy, but the thought of it just sparks a brilliant idea? In fact, the thought gave me a great idea to create some very personal unique gifts to give away. I was actually in the art section of a store looking for sticker albums for the kids (gosh I didn't know these were so hard to find!) when I spotted some inexpensive ready framed canvases. Okay, so I'm not a painter, but I thought why not use them to mount some of my flower blocks!

Mother's Day Rose

Even just recently, when I was showing some of my applique flowers, a number of quilters asked, "is that really raw edge?". Of course, there are some secrets in my technique which reduce fraying and give the appearance that the edges are turned under.
