How Online Quilting Works
The "Academy of Quilting" brings you the joy of learning quilting, applique & patchwork in the comfort of your home with online quilting classes.
Many quilters and sewers ask me how does online learning work so today I wanted to share some of the benefits you receive when you enroll in a quilting class online. I've been teaching online now for 10 years and I must say, its a wonderful way to meet others and get to know them. I've met many students through my classes, mostly online but even some in person.
At the "Academy of Quilting" you will find:
- Detailed step-by-step instructions enhanced with lots of photographs and video
- Online presentation of your work along with other students
- A Forum where you ask me your questions and learn from questions asked by other students
- The opportunity to meet other students from around the nation and around world
- Classes that are competitively priced and unsurpassed in quality
So what do you find in one of my online classes? This does depend what class you take but generally, I like to include at least two options if not more for each technique. For example, in my applique classes I like to include 3 methods of fusible applique. This gives the student the opportunity to try a method they may not normally try.
Left: Soft-edge Applique; Middle: Blanket Stitch by machine;
Right: Blanket Stitch by hand
Not only do I give you instructions on how to piece and applique, but I also give details on fabric selection as well as quilting instructions too. We go from start to finish of making the quilt or class sample. You should be able to finish the entire quilt in the duration of the class. Most classes run from 4-6 weeks.
I'm sometimes asked "I'm away for the first week, will I still be able to take the class or will I miss out on something". The answer is, you can start at any time from when the class first opens. Once a lesson is posted, it remains open for the duration of the class. You do not miss anything. In fact, sometimes it can be beneficial to be a little late as you get to see what other students have already done which gives you an opportunity to do something a little different or refrain from making a common mistake because its been mentioned in the forum.
The beauty of our classes is that you do not have to be online at the same time as the teacher or other students. You can post a message any time, morning, noon or night or even in the small hours. It's up to you when you want to log in, and if you feel like coming into class wearing your PJs and slippers, then that's okay too.
To make it easier to answer your questions, we have designed a special FAQ page about online quilt classes >>
