March is just around the corner and we have another challenge about to start, but before we get underway, perhaps you want to check February's gallery. I added more pieces sent in this last week.

March Rules for Week 1

March is all about scraps. Lots of scraps. Small scraps. No larger than fat eighths! If you have full width strips, that is fine too.

I have a box of scraps, ends of strips, extra squares that were cut, even half square triangles and quarter square triangles. They all end up in my box of bits - well this is just one box...

This week, I want you to take out your scraps and sort them into either brights or darks or one color or just colors that work together.

my sorted scraps - brights (top), autumn (bottom) and green (right)

Include any pieces you have sewn together like half square triangles or ends of bargello blocks.

Once you have a collection, not too many because we are only dealing with a small project remember (unless you love doing this and want to extend), decide which group you want to work with... hmmmm what should I use?

You will also need to choose a complimentary fabric. You want it to be different than your scraps. For example you might choose dark scraps and your complimentary fabric could be a light. Or you might have yellow scraps and a blue for your complimentary fabric. You won't need a large piece for your complimentary fabric or you can make it up of various like fabrics, even scraps if you want. Just make the two different so you can recognize them when put together.

Remember, your scraps should be small and no larger than a fat eighth. Take a photo and send it in to me to add to our new March gallery.

  • I'm going to try and do this challenge--I have a few pieces left from my last class or a lot of red/white/black from two other projects.
