My April Stitch Along week 4

It's the last weekend of April which means it is time to finish up April's challenge piece. I worked on mine today. I didn't quite get completed, but I did get all my words complete. Just need to bind it now which I will hopefully get done this week. I already had all my words included last week except for one "hand stitching".

I started out putting the back and front together. I quilted around the leaves and the outer turquoise fabric. Then I quilted in a free-motion ladder stitch. I made two of these, one up the center of the pale turquoise fabric and one on the right side (top in photo) of the background area, since there was some space that needed filling in.

Here is a closeup of the free-motion on the turquoise.

I was pleasantly surprised how well the back turned out too. The quilting complimented the applique curves.

I wanted to leave it at that as I didn't want to overdo the back with quilting. I liked it just as it was. I still needed to add in the "hand stitching" so I figured I would stitch on some beads by hand - I have the perfect colors.

I added them down the ladder quilting. Some at the top.

Some in the ladder on the background.

And just a few at the very bottom to balance it off.

Here's how my piece finished up.

I'm rather pleased how it turned out, both sides. It has sparked ideas for me to make a bigger quilt - that's on my projects of things to do :)

Don't forget to check out the gallery and hopefully you'll send in your challenge piece too. Now I need to think up a new challenge for May.

  • I really like how yours turned out. I haven't joined you yet with your fun projects, I hope to soon, when I get things around here a little more organized and a few need to do projects completed. Thank you so much for sharing your talents!
