A new month, so a new Stitch Along. I want to do something a little different this month. Instead of giving you a list of materials to select for week one, we are going to jump right into the stitching!

April Rules for Week 1

In whichever way you want, use one of the photos shown here to make a small block. The block needs to be no smaller than 6" x 8". You can use any methods you like to do this.... methods such as surface design, applique or even patchwork if you wish. Options are open to whatever you like.

There are two images to choose from so make your choice and get started. I have added larger images so you can look at them closely if you need to see more detail. Click the small image to open the larger version.

Note: You do not need to finish your block off because we haven't finished with it yet so do not bind it or finish off the edges at this time.

I'm sure you'll have questions, so post them below.

Happy Quilting!

  • Barbara, I stitch through the layers - backing and batting. It helps stabilize the piece and prevents puckering and you don't need to use any tear-away or other stabilizers by doing it this way.

  • When you did the stitching on your leaves and flowers was this just through backgraound fabric or was it with batting and backing?

  • Barbara, you can use any colors you like. The same as the photo or different. You can interpret the photo in any way you like - it might not even look like the photo once you are finished. Size doesn't matter, just don't get too big. I certainly wouldn't want to get any bigger than 20". Yes I did post your cards - although I was a little late. Not sure why you cannot get to the gallery, it is just a blog post like this one, nothing special. Here is the link again, you might need to copy & paste it: http://learntoapplique.com/home/stitch-along-challenges-for-2017/march-2017-stitch-along-gallery

  • Are we to use the same colors? Should it be close to the 6x8inch size or how much larger can it be? Did you post my cards from March's project? I still am having problems getting the gallery page. Barbara F
